Driving westbound on the I-70 past Glenwood Springs on Sunday morning, a 19-year-old woman lost control of her Honda Civic and rolled over several times, ejecting her baby who was killed on the spot. The mother was taken to a nearby hospital with possible serious injuries.
According to 9news.com, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) does not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash and indicated that while the child was in a safety seat, it was most probably not properly restrained.
Attorney Robert J. Anderson extends his deepest sympathy to the injured mother and her family facing the terrible consequences of this tragedy.
Colorado drivers are reminded by the CSP that more than 90% of the child safety seats inspected by the Child Passenger Safety Team Colorado were improperly installed or used.
Colorado Springs auto accident attorney Robert J. Anderson also wants to stress the importance of the new law on child passenger safety, requiring as of August 1, 2010 that all children under age 8 be properly restrained in a child seat or booster. Previously, the law required only children up to 5 years of age to be seated in safety seats.
Many children die every year in Colorado vehicle accidents because their low body mass and small size makes them particularly vulnerable to projection and ejection. The only way to keep a small child safe in a car is to restrain it tightly to a child safety seat and have the seat anchored onto the car seat in a way that will resist the strongest impacts.
- 1 - 10Commerce City Police have identified a woman who was killed Thursday in a roll-over accident as twenty-one-year old Yoana Rodriguez of Aurora, according to 9news.com. Rodriguez was driving northbound on Tower Road near 97th Avenue at around 5:00 a.m. when she encountered debris on the road, which she had to swerve around to avoid. The car veered to the right and rolled over. The young woman, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected and killed on the spot. A witness went to the car and rescued a two-year old child who was still strapped into a car seat. The little girl was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The witness later declared that that road is frequently littered with trash and debris, which drivers have to go around.
Attorney Robert J. Anderson expresses his deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the young mother, and is particularly saddened by this tragedy, which probably could have been avoided had the mother thought to buckle her own safety belt as she did for her little girl.
Once again drivers are reminded how a routine trip can have a nightmarish outcome when something totally unexpected like road debris comes up. Road accidents are sometimes caused by our own mistakes, but they can sometimes be caused by others. We can control our own mistakes—for instance, by buckling up and making sure children are always safely strapped into their seats, or by buying a safer car. And with experience we learn to anticipate as much as possible the mistakes of others and the unexpected obstacles we may encounter.

Another tragic Colorado motorcycle accident reminds all bikers in El Paso, Denver, and Douglas counties how treacherous roads, speed, and inexperience can be a devastating combination. According to a report from 9news, a motorcyclist was riding northbound on Interstate 25 in Larimer County at Harmony Road and crashed when changing lanes on uneven asphalt. His passenger was injured and transported to a nearby hospital.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased motorcyclist, as well as to the injured passenger.
Accidents like this one are unfortunately a frequent reminder of the terrible, sometimes deadly consequences of riding a motorcycle on unsafe roads. Accidents can be caused by our own mistakes, the negligence or carelessness of others, or—as may have been the case here—bad or dangerous road conditions. Motorcycle Accident Attorney Robert J. Anderson in Colorado Springs has seen hundreds of victims of motorcycle crashes, and he has helped them and their relatives through the painful and arduous process of getting just compensation for their pain, suffering, and losses.

A van ran a red light coming off the I-10 at Santa Fe Street in downtown El Paso and was hit by a pick-up truck, knocking the van on its side. KTSM Channel 9 further reported that the woman who drove the van was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
So many Colorado vehicle accidents are now caused by distracted drivers that road-accidents, after years of decline thanks to safety campaigns, strict enforcement, better infrastructure, and safer cars, are now on the rise again. As a Colorado Springs attorney focusing on auto, motorcycle, and truck accidents, Robert J. Anderson has had firsthand experience of numerous Colorado distracted-driving accidents resulting in devastating injuries and even death.
In the above-mentioned collision, both drivers were lucky enough to escape relatively unhurt. The case nevertheless illustrates why distracted-driving accidents can be so destructive: neither of the two vehicles saw it coming, and they collided at full force.
Whether you have been hurt in a Colorado car crash caused by aggressive driving or by a distracted driver or trucker, you may be entitled to compensation. If you sustained serious injuries, the compensation may take into account pain, suffering, medical treatment, long term medical and rehabilitation costs, costs related to impairment, and loss of income.

This accident had all the ingredients for a major Colorado car crash, one that could have resulted in serious injuries and death. Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained. At 8:46 a.m., an SUV towing a camper trailer slammed into two cars stopped because of congestion on Interstate 25 northbound at Ridgegate Parkway. According to a report by The Denver Post, the collision caused the trailer to flip, blocking traffic for more than an hour and causing a four-mile back-up.
All concerned were very lucky to have avoided the more serious consequences-like traumatic brain injuries or spinal cord damage-that frequently accompany serious Colorado collisions like this one.
Lone Tree and Douglas County authorities could not immediately confirm what had caused the SUV driver to ram into the stopped traffic, but it is easy to speculate that the driver must have been either drowsy or distracted.
Distracted driving has become the top cause of Colorado road accidents. Drivers often cause accidents by fiddling with a cell phone or spilling hot coffee. Many distracted Colorado drivers don't realize that during the three seconds that their eyes and mind are not focused on the road, a vehicle moving at sixty mph can travel about 88 yards.

Driving north on I-25 in Douglas County, nineteen-year-old driver Lauren Jewel over-reacted when her SUV drifted into the median, causing her vehicle to roll over. According to KRDO News Channel the front-seat passenger, twenty-one-year-old Whitney Jewel, was instantly killed. Lauren Jewel and the two other injured young passengers were taken to Penrose hospital. According to the Colorado State Patrol, drugs and alcohol did not seem to be the cause of the accident, and all occupants had been wearing their seat belts.
Auto-accident Attorney Robert J. Anderson conveys his deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victim, for whom the loss of young Whitney Jewel must be a terrible burden.

- 6 - 10A Colorado Springs man was killed when his Chevrolet SUV rolled over east of Calhan near Ramah highway. The driver was apparently alone in the vehicle, and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
In another car roll-over northwest of Falcon, the driver was seriously injured and airlifted to Penrose Hospital. The accident is being investigated.
In a single-vehicle accident, a roll-over may happen when the car abruptly turns at excessive speed. If the vehicle's tires don't slip, especially if the vehicle is top-heavy like an SUV, the inertia and the high resistance of turned tires on a dry surface will cause the vehicle in a rolling to roll. The same may happen when a fast-turning vehicle hits a curb or a rail guard, or when a tire blows in a curve.
The above mentioned car wrecks had terrible consequences for the drivers. But roll-overs are often the result of unpredictable behavior by other drivers, resulting in total loss of the vehicle and serious or fatal injuries. Don't take any chances; buckle up and make sure that all passengers in the car, even in the back, have their seat-belts on.

The Adams/Broomfield District Attorney's office announced today the filing of charges against a thirty-five-year-old woman in a series of crashes on July 5th. The woman was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-25. After striking one car, seriously injuring the driver, the woman drove further south and hit another car, again injuring the driver and killing the passenger, twenty-two-year-old Mary Warren, who had recently graduated from Colorado State University and was scheduled to join the Peace Corps in August to work in Kazakhstan.
There are no words to describe the tragedy for the Warren family. It is also difficult to comprehend how anyone in a deep state of intoxication can get behind the wheel unchecked and murderously roam the highways.
DUI crashes are still with us. They happen almost every day and even if we don't understand why they happen, we must at least continue to fight drunken driving. Overall, alcohol-related traffic deaths have decreased in the state of Colorado since 2004, but DUI arrests are still hovering at the same level as four years ago, around 30,000 per year.
If you or a loved one have been the victim of a DUI accident or if you have been injured in a car, truck, motorcycle, or bicycle accident in Denver, El Paso, or surrounding counties due to someone else's negligence or recklessness, you may be entitled to compensation. Auto accident attorney Robert J. Anderson knows that you are faced with pain, suffering, and countless medical and financial difficulties. A five-car accident in Fruita, Mesa County, is another powerful reminder to all Coloradans that aggressive driving is still with us.
The I-70 was shut down for more than an hour and a half after an eastbound car passed another car on the right at high speed and hit the back and left side of a semi truck. Losing control, the car rolled into the median, where a van and a semi heading west tried to avoid the rolling vehicle and ended up colliding with each other. A passenger was ejected from the speeding car when it rolled over the median.
Four people were transported to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. A detailed account of how the accidents unfolded shows that the human toll could have been a lot worse, especially since two large trucks were involved.
On July 14th the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) announced the ticketing aggressive cars and trucks campaign, a major educational and safety enforcement to reduce accidents between cars and trucks.
"The TACT program of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ‘Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks,' has been adapted for a high-visibility campaign by the CSP over the next three months designed to communicate with our Colorado motorists and truckers," said Colonel James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the CSP.
Last year in Colorado thirty-one people were killed and 161 injured in crashes between trucks and cars. The drivers of the cars were responsible for 56 percent of these accidents, while 78 percent of the fatalities were passengers in those cars. Data compiled from the last three years (2007 to 2009) indicate that the top three causes of crashes between trucks and cars are speeding, following too closely, and unsafe lane violations.

Four people were injured in a collision at the intersection of Boulder and Prospect Street, one of whom is in serious condition. The driver initially fled the scene, leaving his passenger in the car, but was later caught by police and sent to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The intersection had been closed for two weeks because of a large sink-hole. The driver swerved around the barricades blocking the unsafe zone hitting two other vehicles, one of which overturned. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, hit and run and DUI.
The unpredictability of such an event means that even the best and safest drivers could at any moment become the victim of a devastating accident. If you or someone you care for has been involved in a truck, car, motorcycle, or bicycle accident you could be facing very hard times. The costs of medical care and material damage will have to be faced while you are still grieving for a lost loved one. You may wonder how you will find the strength to fight the insurance company for just compensation. The process is long and confusing, and you have little or no experience and thousands of other things to do.
