Colorado Springs car accidents increase due to drivers multi-tasking

Multitasking while driving in Colorado Springs is a huge concern these days. We’ve all seen other drivers apply makeup, eat breakfast, talk on their cell phones, text or switch out CDs while they are driving, or maybe you have participated in one of these distractions yourself.

More and more people are spending large amounts of time in their vehicles and want to make the best use of their time. We are taught that it is a good thing to multitask in business, but it is a skill that can lead to danger if done while driving. Multitasking can lead to distracted driving. Some of the biggest distractions that cause drivers to be involved in Colorado Springs car accidents include:

  • Eating in the car (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks)
  • Drinking in the car (coffee, tea, soda)
  • Talking on the phone
  • Texting and emailing
  • Searching for locations in the navigation system
  • Checking social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace)
  • Looking in the mirror and/or applying makeup
  • Reading behind the wheel
  • Changing music or switching CDs
  • Arguing with passengers in the vehicle

All of these multitasking activities have been the cause of car crashes in Colorado and throughout our nation. If people really knew that they were driving around 4,000 pounds of metal that could potentially be a deadly weapon, do you think they would still participate in any of these activities behind the wheel?

The distractions of activities unrelated to driving have increased car accidents in Colorado Springs and in the United States. This is caused from drivers not being able to fully focus on their driving and on the road because they are multitasking. More emphasis needs to be put on the results of what could happen when multitask and driving.

Drivers who participate in multitasking activities in Colorado Springs are increasing their risk of being injured and injuring another driver, passenger, pedestrian, bicyclist, and other motorist. When this happens, drivers find themselves legally and socially responsible. Serious injuries may occur, such as broken bones, paralysis, nerve damage, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and head trauma, among others.

If you have been hurt in a car crash and you believe it was caused by a distracted driver in Colorado Springs who was multitasking, contact the Law Offices of Robert J. Anderson who has been representing injured victims in Colorado for nearly 30 years at (866) 254-1274.
