Is your teenager distracted behind the wheel?

Everyday teenagers are learning how to drive. Concentrating on the road is key because young drivers lack the wisdom and experience behind the wheel.  Even though the state of Colorado passed a law indicating it is illegal for 16 and 17 year olds to talk on the phone or text while driving, many still find ways to break this law.

Adding a cell phone into the equation as a teenager is learning to drive can be deadly.  Recent findings show that teenagers between 16 to 19 years of age are unfortunately in the highest risk group of distracted drivers in fatal car crashes.  This is due in part to distracted driving.

Even though texting is considered to be the most dangerous because it causes drivers to take their hands off the wheel and look away from the road, other activities such as day dreaming, talking with friends in the car, eating and drinking, using the navigation system, changing the radio station, and talking on the phone are all considered to be distractions while driving.
 
Many don’t realize how dangerous it is to multi-task when driving. Other important factors for teenagers are paying attention to the speed limits and road conditions.  Limiting distractions can help save lives.
